BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont group known for its quirky agriculture and town festival, the Strolling of the Heifers, is the new owner of a community performance space in Brattleboro.
Strolling of the Heifers has taken over the Robert H. Gibson River Garden, which was owned by Building a Better Brattleboro.
The Brattleboro Reformer reports (http://bit.ly/17FJfBe) Heifers founder Orly Munzing said it took a little while to get financing in place as the group sought to take over the $175,000 mortgage. She said Heifers secured a low-interest USDA mortgage.
Munzing said in a news conference Friday the group wants to open a farm/food education center at the River Garden. It hopes to raise about $200,000 through gifts and grants, to upgrade the River Garden and support year-round programming, exhibits and events
