Patriots Acquire NT Isaac Sopoaga from Eagles

PHILADELPHIA -- The Patriots acquired nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga from the Philadelphia Eagles along with a sixth-round pick in 2014 for a fifth-rounder next year.

Sopoaga, who spent his first nine seasons with San Francisco, had signed an $11 million, three-year deal as a free agent. He played eight games and 18 tackles.

The 32-year-old Sopoaga helps replace Pro Bowl nose tackle Vince Wilfork, who is out for the season. The Patriots have allowed 157 yards rushing per game since Wilfork was injured.

Rookie third-round pick Bennie Logan, veteran Clifton Geathers and rookie Damion Square will get more playing time with the Eagles now that Sopoaga is gone.

VOLLMER: Also Tuesday, Patriots right tackle Sebastian Vollmer was ruled out for the season with a right leg injury.

Vollmer was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday after being hurt Sunday when Miami defensive tackle Randy Starks fell on the back of his legs. A second-round draft pick by the Patriots in 2009, has started all eight games this season and 57 of the 64 he's played in the NFL, including the postseason.

SUPER BOWL RING: Hall of Famer Lance Alworth is getting back his Super Bowl ring, 25 years after it was stolen.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday the 1971 ring was scheduled to be sold Nov. 20 at an auction house in Laguna Niguel with an opening bid of $44,000. The ring was reported stolen in 1988 from a San Diego bar that displayed sports memorabilia.

Investigators say Alworth received a phone call last month demanding $40,000 for the ring. The former wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers and the Dallas Cowboys contacted authorities.

No arrests have been made.

Blackhawks To Visit White House on Monday

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks will visit President Barack Obama at the White House on Monday to celebrate their second Stanley Cup title in four seasons.

The Blackhawks will begin the day with a visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to spend time with wounded soldiers and thank them for their service.

The Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins in six games in June to secure their fifth NHL title in franchise history.

EA Sports, Tiger Cut Ties on Golf Video Game

EA Sports' popular PGA Tour game will no longer be named for Tiger Woods.

The company announced on its blog that it and Woods have made a "mutual decision to end our partnership" and that the company would keep working with the PGA Tour on its next golf title.

EA Sports' popular golf game has been named for Tiger Woods since it first came out in 1998. This year's game, titled "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14," will be the last one to bear his name.

Man Denies Killing Sean Taylor, Blames Others

MIAMI -- The man accused of killing Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor during a failed 2007 burglary is denying he even went inside the house that night.

Eric Rivera Jr. testified Tuesday that three others went in Taylor's house and one of them had a gun. Rivera says he and a friend stayed in their car the whole time. Rivera says one of the others said he fired the fatal shot.

Rivera faces life in prison if convicted. Four others from the Fort Myers area were charged in the case, with one pleading guilty. The others will go on trial later.

Testimony indicated the group drove to Miami intending to burglarize Taylor's home because they believed he kept a lot of cash on hand. They did not think Taylor would be there.
