MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) -- A New Hampshire man has been sentenced to at least 10 years in prison on six counts of possession of child porn images on his computer.
Hillsborough County Attorney Patricia LaFrance says 28-year-old Michael Donnelly of Peterborough was convicted on Nov. 7. Police started investigating after his mother took the family computer to a friend because the machine was freezing up. As the friend began removing viruses, he discovered videos of child sexual abuse.
Donnelly's lawyer asked for a lesser sentence Thursday, asking the judge to recognize a difference between the people who commit the acts of abuse and the people who possess the images of abuse. The judge rejected that argument, but allowed Donnelly to remain out on bail pending the outcome of an appeal.
