LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — Maine state police say a man arrested for producing counterfeit inspection stickers may have produced hundreds, or even thousands, of them over the past four years.
State police charged 31-year-old Percy Hutchins after a search of his home uncovered 27 inspection stickers.
Troopers believe Hutchins had been in operation since 2010, selling inspection stickers for $100 or more apiece.
Troopers are finding more phony inspection stickers on vehicles belonging to motorists who seek to avoid making repairs necessary to pass inspection.
Hutchins was released from jail on Friday after being charged with aggravated forgery. Jail paperwork didn't indicate whether he had a lawyer, and a phone number for Hutchins couldn't be located.
