BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) -- The U.S. Marshal's Service says a Vermont fugitive arrested in Canada after being on the run for more than seven years is back in the United States.
The service says 35-year-old Matthew S. Patry, formerly of Burlington, was turned over to Vermont and U.S. authorities Wednesday at the Highgate Springs border crossing with Quebec.
Patry was arrested by agents of the Canada Border Services Agency earlier this month in Blainville, about 20 miles northwest of Montreal.
Patry had been a fugitive since 2007, when he disappeared from furlough. In October 2007 Vermont officials determined he was out of compliance with the state's sex offender registry and an arrest warrant was issued.
Patry is due to appear in Vermont Superior Court in Burlington.
It's unclear if Patry has a lawyer.
