BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) -- The administrator of the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington says the staff pulled together until the last minute to pass a federal inspection that will allow the facility to keep its federal Medicare funding.
Administrator Melissa Jackson says staff was practicing dressing changes on mannequins as recently as Tuesday. And staff members did successfully change dressings for the inspectors.
Veterans Home Resident Ransom Gore says the staff and the 133 residents were called in to the dining hall at mid-day Wednesday. He says everyone clapped when the good news was announced.
The home had faced a loss of $10 million in federal funding after inspectors found a series of deficiencies in care.
Gov. Peter Shumlin says state officials worked with home staff to ensure the facility passed.
