BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) -- Vermont will celebrate the anniversary of a Revolutionary War battle called the Battle of Bennington with a state holiday this week.
Friday is Bennington Battle Day.
The battle will be celebrated on Friday and Saturday in Bennnington and at the Bennington Battle Monument, with a running race, cannons and military re-enactors.
The monument, Vermont's tallest man-made structure, was built to commemorate 1777 battle, in which Gen. John Stark and colonial troops fought British troops to protect military supplies stored in Bennington. But the battle took place in New York.
