Theater Group Will Engage Youth and Community in Substance Abuse Prevention
Substance abuse can impact the economic health of the Northeast Kingdom because it drains away the talent and work ethic from the local work force. If the region were to have a reputation for having a population with substance abuse problems, it would more difficult to attract new employers to the area. Is there a problem? The 2013 Vermont Youth Risk Behavior Survey reports that 28 percent of high school students in Newport replied that there were offered sold or given an illegal drug on school property in the past year, which is a rate 10 percent higher than other schools around the state.

Colonial Theatre Celebrates Centenary Season
The Colonial Theatre in Bethlehem, NH will open for its 100th consecutive season Thursday, April 30. One of the oldest continuously operating movie theaters in the country, The Colonial has become, under the 14 years of management by The Friends of the Colonial, one of the premier performing arts centers in the region as well. Plans are underway for a season of celebration including an August 8th street party, a Centennial Film Series highlighting films with benchmark birthdays in 2015, as well an expanded film schedule with two features weekly and much, much more.

They would go on to make almost 30 films for the studio, including "Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy," the last of their 'meet the monster' series, which was released 60 years ago this year.
