March Meals On Wheels Champions
ST. JOHNSBURY -- The St. Johnsbury Senior Meals Program at the St. Johnsbury House on Main Street in St. Johnsbury, Vermont recently participated in the National March for Meals campaign, held annually for the Meals On Wheels program. The third week in March was Community Champions Week, during which the Meals On Wheels volunteer drivers were accompanied by community members, from left, Jenny Nelson, Rural Development Specialist; State Representative Scott Beck; Paul Bengtson, CEO of Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital; and State Representative Marcia Martel.

There are women and men -- and they are there with laptops and iPads and other devices in front of them, starting them up and beginning to talk to each other about them before the "class" even starts.

St. Johnsbury Athenaeum to Host Vermont Creative Network Community Forum
ST. JOHNSBURY -- The St. Johnsbury Athenaeum will host a community forum to provide information, gather ideas, and welcome participation in a new statewide initiative called the Vermont Creative Network. The forum will be held on Wednesday, April 22, from 4:30 to 8 p.m., and dinner will be served. Art activities for children ages 5 to 12 will be available from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The St. Johnsbury meeting is one of ten forums to be held throughout the state.

Sterling College announced that award-winning author, farmer, and philosopher Fred Kirschenmann will be presenting "Practical Strategies for Anticipating Future Food and Agriculture Challenges" on Wednesday, April 22, at 6 p.m. in Simpson Hall, Classroom 3. This talk is free and open to the public as part of the Vermont's Table Speaker Series.

Lyndon State To Present Final 'Year Of Social Justice' Events
LYNDON CENTER -- Lyndon State College's Year of Social Justice concludes with three events. The first "Mirrors of Privilege," is a film followed by a discussion; the second event is a panel discussion about male victims of sexual trauma; the third is a reading and discussion about women's experiences of harassment and assault in their daily life. Lyndon President Joe Bertolino designated the 2014-2015 school year as the Year of Social Justice. These events are free and open to the public.

"Growing Shiitake Mushrooms in the Northeast" will be presented by grower Dean Bascom at Tenney Memorial Library, Route 5, Newbury, on Thursday, April 9, at 7 p.m. Dean will outline the process of growing shiitakes, demonstrate the tools that are used, and will explain how to get started, from a one-log set-up to a mushroom yard. He will also discuss the origin, benefits, and uses of this unique mushroom.
