After being cooped up in the house for possibly months at a time, senior adults can breathe in the fresh air, even if they are experiencing mobility problems. It takes some advance planning and choosing an activity that won't seem like a chore, but it's worth getting out of the house, for you and your elderly parent.

AARP Smart Driver Class In Gilman
An AARP driver safety class is scheduled for Saturday, July 26 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Gilman Senior Center in Gilman. This defensive driving course (which may earn the participant an auto insurance discount with some insurance companies) is designed to reduce the chances of having an automobile crash for drivers age 50 and older. The class is open to all 50+ drivers, and the cost is $15 for AARP members or $20 for non-members. For more information and to pre-register (required), call Kim McDade 603-252-0572.

Third Annual ATV Obstacle Challenge To Benefit Animal Shelter
The Great North Woods Riders ATV Club will host its third annual ATV Obstacle Challenge on July 19 at 10 a.m. The off-road ATV obstacle challenge can be found off Back Lake Road in Pittsburg. It will consist of 13 obstacles for participants to navigate. Contestants will compete for the best and cleanest time.

Magic Of Science At Weeks
On July 10 the Weeks Memorial Library hosted the Magic of Science. The program revealed the science behind magic tricks, along with fun experiments and lots of audience participation. The Peter and Polly Park Gets An Overhaul
Many changes have been taking place at the Peter and Polly Park in East St. Johnsbury. Members of the East Village Association have been sprucing up the flower beds, moving the flagpole, re-positioning the picnic tables and creating a new bulletin board at the entrance to the park. In addition, volunteers have set the original school swing set, refurbished by Matt Keafer, into the ground. "We want the park to be a fun place for village members and visitors to come and play, have a picnic and visit," said Tom Huntington, chair of the park committee. Association members are working on a number of projects in preparation for the 100th anniversary of Old Home Day, to be held the weekend of July 25-27.

Littleton Rotarian Sylvie Weber Honored
At the July 2 meeting of the Littleton Rotary Club, retiring President Kim Shillieto presents his President's Citation Award to Sylvie Weber. The honor is given each year to the Rotarian who best exemplifies the organization's motto, "Service above Self" and whose spirit and drive have significantly helped the club achieve its goals. Weber's creativity and energy boosted revenue from the Lobster Festival, a major fundraising event held every fall. In addition, her photographic skills frequently serve to present club activities to the community.
