Jamie McMurray finished 40th, Jeff Gordon 41st and Kasey Kahne was 42nd. So, with only four races to go, (if Kyle Busch remains in the top 30) those in by points would be McMurray 73 points ahead of 16th, Paul Menard is +60, Gordon +58, Ryan Newman +51 and Clint Bowyer is +50.
... in by wins would be Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kurt Busch, Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr., Brad Keselowski, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards. Missing from this list is Kyle Busch with his four wins. He’s still not in the top 30 in points. He’s 23 points out of 30th headed to Pocono this week. Thursday, July 30, 2015
I headed to the International 500 at Airborne Park Speedway, Plattsburgh, NY, last Saturday for the PASS/ACT double-header. I was thinking I’d see about 30 cars in each of the 200-lap races. But, sadly, there were only 25 ACT cars and 19 PASS cars. For the first time in my race-chasing career, after about 15 minutes of being in the pits, it crossed my mind I wished I had gone to the beach.
It was recently announced Buddy Baker has been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. “Just before Thanksgiving, I started having horrendous shoulder pain,” he said. He was eventually advised to undergo rotator cuff surgery. “I said, ‘Good, I’ll be back in a couple of weeks.’ Not so.”
And, I quote (from before the 2014 season): “We have arrived at a format that makes every race matter even more, diminishes points racing, puts a premium on winning races and concludes with a best-of-the-best, first-to-the-finish line showdown race – all of which is exactly what fans want,” said Brian France, NASCAR chairman and CEO.
