An armed robber fled Kinney Drugs in St. Johnsbury with a reported $1,500 in cash Thursday night.

Law enforcement officials rushed to the store about 8:45 p.m., after it was reported that a suspect wearing a "Jason" style hockey mask and a hoodie held up the store with a 9mm handgun. The initial report is that the suspect got away with about $1,500.

First on scene was Sgt. Stephen Bunnell of the Caledonia County Sheriff's Department, who had just finished his security shift at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, located across Memorial Drive from Kinney. Bunnell said there was no sign of the suspect when he arrived.

Vermont State Police responded, along with officers of the St. Johnsbury Police Department. Wardens from Vermont Fish and Game also joined the search. A K9 unit from the Bradford barracks of the VSP was also called to the scene.

The search for the suspect, described in initial reports as a man about 6 ft., 1-in. tall with an average build, continued into the night.

The clerk who encountered the robber was checked out by CALEX ambulance personnel.
