A holiday getaway on Cape Cod ended in violence when an intoxicated Newport, Vt., man tried to assault a woman and tried to strangle her while her 10-year-old son was in the motel room, according to Yarmouth, Mass., police.
Gregory Willis, 34, of Pine Hill Road, was charged with assault with intent to rape and three counts of attempted murder, police said.
Willis struck a woman he was vacationing with in the face when she refused to have sex with him and then tried to strangle her early Friday at the Econo Lodge, police said.
The victim's 10-year-old son was awakened by the scuffle and ran over and told Willis to stop choking his mother, police said.
Willis then turned his anger on the boy and began choking him, police said. The woman tried to flee from the room to get help, but Willis grabbed her and pulled her onto the second-floor balcony, planning to throw her off, police said.
An employee at the Econo Lodge on Route 28 heard the victim's screams and saw Willis dragging the woman to the balcony, the police report said.
The Cape Cod Times reported the woman got away from Willis' grip and ran with her son to her parked car, where she waited for police, who responded shortly after midnight.
