Dunklee Ranked 17th in World at Season's End
KHANTY-MANSIYSK, Russia -- Barton's Susan Dunklee wrapped up the 2015 World Cup biathlon season with a 19th-place finish in the 12.5-kilometer mass start race on Sunday and claimed 17th in the final International Biathlon Union rankings. Teammate Hannah Dreissigacker, (Morrisville) came in 26th after posting a career-best 14th in Friday's 7.5-k sprint.

St. Johnsbury Academy senior Brandon Wells was named MVP of the Essex Rotary Classic boys hockey game on Saturday. Part of the Austin team, Wells recorded one goal in a 4-3 loss to the Harris team.

Littleton High School: McNamara, Prior Awarded for Girls Hoops Efforts
LITTLETON, N.H. -- Littleton senior forward Madi McNamara and head coach Dale Prior were selected as the Division IV player and coach of the year, respectively, in girls hoops. In addition, teammate junior Libby McNamara was named to the state second team and sophomore Emma Bogardus was an honorable mention.

Girls on Fire: Hilltoppers Blaze Past Hornets for First Indoor Crown
On Feb. 14 on the campus of Norwich University in Northfield, the St. Johnsbury Academy girls track and field team added to the crowded legacy of Hilltopper running with a first-ever indoor track championship for the girls and first for the Academy since the boys won both indoor and outdoor in 2012.

The Lyndon Area Youth Hockey Association (LAYHA) Squirt A team took second place out of 10 teams in the Vermont State Championships. Last Saturday, the Red Wings lost a 2-1 heartbreaker to MAHA (Missisquoi) in the championship game at Cairns Arena in South Burlington, where a sizable throng of Northeast Kingdom residents came to cheer on the team.

Dunklee Takes 12th at World Championships
KONTIOLAHTI, Finland -- Barton's Susan Dunklee led the charge for the U.S. women's team with a 12th-place finish in Wednesday's 15-kilometer individual race at the IBU World Championships according to a press release from U.S. Biathlon. It marked the third career top-15 finish for Dunklee in the event.

Male Athlete of the Week: Lyndon Institute's Caleb Genereaux
Ending up on the slalom course for last Tuesday's GS state meet turned out to favor Vikings junior Caleb Genereaux. Racing on the abbreviated course because of an Okemo scheduling snafu, the junior took first place in a torrid, three-way finish in which his time of 1 minute and 40.11 seconds was just .04 seconds faster than the runner-up and .11 seconds ahead of third place. It was his second GS win of the season, and his first in four races at Okemo.

Female Athlete of the Week: North Country Goalie Mikaella Doran
Good goaltenders often get overlooked because they only get attention when they let one in. That doesn't happen much with North Country's Mikaella Doran. She took a 10-shutout, 1.00 goals against average season into the Division II finals at Gutterson Fieldhouse last week and helped the Falcons come away with a 4-2 win and their first ever championship, despite being outshot 25-13.

Female Athlete of the Week: North Country's Callie Young
It's hard to argue with the title "state champion." On Thursday in Craftsbury, North Country freshman Callie Young recorded the fastest time in the state in the 5-kilometer freestyle race and took home the Division I crown. Young followed it up on Tuesday with a second-place finish in the classic style state meet in Ripton and helped the Falcons girls finish fourth overall in Nordic team scoring, just a shade behind Burlington.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Colebrook took care of third-ranked Groveton to advance to the N.H. Division IV girls hoops championship on Saturday. The No. 2 Mohawks defeated Groveton 55-46 on Monday evening behind Michaella Biron's team-high 17 points. Lexi Lawson contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
