On Saturday at the Eastern Cup in Lake Placid, St. J Academy's Alexandra Lawson and North Country Union's Avery Ellis competed in the U18 women's freestyle sprints. Ellis' qualifying time was fast enough to qualify for the U18 heats. She placed third in her semifinal heat, and third again in the final for a bronze medal.

Male Athlete of the Week: Groveton's Corey Gadwah
"I've been wanting to do this my whole career. It's just the greatest feeling," junior Corey Gadwah said Monday, Dec. 21 after becoming the 18th player in Groveton High School history to reach 1,000 career points. It came with 3:51 left in the fourth quarter, and the junior was pulled from the game after making the milestone, finishing with a game-high 20 points in the Eagles' defeat of Lin-Wood.

Another Eagle Makes 1,000 Points
GROVETON, N.H. -- The consolation final for the girls at the Groveton Holiday Hoop Classic on Wednesday turned into a milestone event for the Abbey Pelletier in the final 22.3 seconds of the fourth quarter when the Eagle senior scored her 22nd point to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Just in time so her mom could be there to see it before business called her away the very next day.

LAYHA Teams To Be Shown on NESN
Two teams from the Lyndon Area Youth Hockey Association will be shown on NESN before and during televised Boston Bruins games. Both the LAYHA Squirt and Pee Wee teams qualified for the Bruins' annual Mini 1 on 1 event at TD Garden in Boston, which was changed this year to a three-on-three cross-ice format, with games lasting three minutes.

ORLEANS -- Trailing 28-21 with 5:06 left in the fourth quarter, Lake Region closed Thursday's interdivision game with St. Johnsbury Academy on a 12-4 run for a 33-32 win. Eight of the Rangers' points were scored by senior guard Megan Menard, who had a game-high 14 points. Her two free throws with 24.4 seconds left made for the final score.

LYNDON CENTER -- Sparked by two goals by junior forward Michal Stinil, the Vikings shot out to a 3-1 lead midway through the first period. Burlington, though, remained unrattled and scored four unanswered goals to earn a 5-3 win in Division II boys hockey on Wednesday at Fenton Chester Arena. It was the first game of the season for both teams.
