Burlington Cashing In On The Rest Of Us
It's interesting to learn that Burlington has agreed to buy more than half of the power that the Sheffield wind farm, if and when it is built, produces. Another way to look at it is that, since the profit in a wind farm derives entirely from the public subsidies that will fill the pockets of the owners, the rest of us will be subsidizing with our tax dollars the citizens of Burlington. Talk about ironies. Burlington and Chittenden County are frequently and derisively referred to as "The Socialistic Republic of Vermont," Now it is coming true. Our tax dollars will heat and light them.

That's the basic problem in trying to convert all of our power sources, all of our manufacturing and industrial bases, all of our motor vehicles, all of our farm equipment, and every other real or alleged source of global warming pollutants to a green world. Every one of those efforts exists only because the government makes it profitable for the social engineers who become owners through subsidies. Subsidy is another word for taking from the taxpayer in order to make the snake oil salesmen rich. Take wind, for example. There wouldn't be an iota of interest in wind farms were it not for the rich subsidies that flow to the owners of the windmills. Those rich subsidies come out of the hides of the taxpayer.

So, Burlington gets a semi-free ride from the rest of us. To be honest, so does Sheffield. There isn't any way that wind-power will ever replace more than 1 percent of the nation's current power coming from other sources, but it is sexy and fashionable right now, and nobody knows that better than the snake oil salesmen.

It's too bad that we can't capture the energy in the hot air that blows constantly within and among the Chittenden County political office holders and their circles. If we could do that in Burlington and Montpelier, we might not even need subsidies to power Vermont with wind.

I read that one big oil company made a 48 Billion
Dollar profit in 2008 but received 180
Million Dollars in tax subsidies while delivering fuel on Tax Dollar built highways.
