Ensuring Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Through Medicaid Expansion
The NH Health Protection Program, which now provides access to healthcare to over 47,000 people in our state, will sunset later this year unless the Legislature enacts a bill to reauthorize it. The program is NH's version of Medicaid expansion - a unique, Granite State solution to providing healthcare to all our citizens with a bridge to the private marketplace. NAMI-NH and the NH Community Behavioral Health Association both strongly supported the 2014 legislation creating the program and we now urge legislators to pass HB 1696, the bill that will keep it going.

Efficiency Investment A Big Win For Vermonters
In the 15 years since Efficiency Vermont was launched, it has achieved, and in most cases surpassed, every performance goal established for it by the Public Service Board. Those goals require Efficiency Vermont to substantially reduce greenhouse gases and achieve significant energy cost savings for customers throughout Vermont, in every market sector including renters, homeowners, business owners, farmers, hospitals, manufacturers, schools and governments. This record of accomplishing energy savings is confirmed by the findings of a recent report by the Department of Public Service to the Legislature's Joint Energy Committee.

Tom Lovett: A One-day Mission
I recently came across an article by John Pavlovitz in which he described his experiences while leading a group of 40 students and adults in what he called "a four-day destination-less, meandering journey to love and care for people as we met them, wherever we met them." During this "spontaneous mission," they encountered hundreds of strangers over hundreds of miles, and they had only one desire: "to help and give hope" to each one they met. One of those people was Kat, a woman in her mid-40s. Kat was a germophobe and suffered from agoraphobia, and her fears had made her a recluse, living a life fraught with personal demons and intense emotional trauma. During the days the group spent with Kat, she gradually opened up about her struggles and finally broke down, sobbing, "I am trying! I promise I am trying so hard!"
